Verse 55 of Surah Al-Ma'idah is among the most important and special verses in proving the authority (Wilayah) of Imam Ali (a.s.). A correct analysis of this verse will naturally dispel many doubts. However, an accurate interpretation or exegesis of this verse, using the threefold Quranic methods along with the semantic analysis of the words in the verse, can eliminate the basis for such doubts. The majority of commentators have relied on various narrations, including those related to the circumstances of revelation (Asbab al-Nuzul) and interpretive traditions, while the doubts raised by skeptics primarily stem from the semantic understanding of the word Wali and other words in the verse. Therefore, one of the most important focuses of Quranic research is the precise discovery and explanation of the meanings of verses and similar statements through a novel approach with a descriptive-analytical perspective. Undoubtedly, understanding and grasping the meanings of the Quran is not possible without knowledge and comprehension of the meanings of its vocabulary. This matter has always been a primary concern for religious scholars and Quranic commentators so that, through accurate and in-depth knowledge of words, they may grasp the essence of divine purposes and objectives.
