Abstract

Given the emphasis of Imami traditions on referring a person to the Imam in all aspects of life as a religious authority and introducing the Imam as the holder of the position of religious authority, this research seeks to answer the following question:

Can all the conditions and attributes of Imamate be redefined and organized within the framework of the religious authority of the Ahl al-Bayt? In other words, if we analyze the Imamate from the perspective of the religious authority of the Ahl al-Bayt, how many of the conditions and attributes of Imamate can be proven for the position of religious authority of the Ahl al-Bayt?

In this article, three basic conditions of the Imam are examined and their relationship with the religious authority of the Ahl al-Bayt is analyzed. The research findings show that all the important positions of the Imam, including divine appointment, special knowledge, and infallibility, are fixed for the position of religious authority of the Ahl al-Bayt. It also shows that the religious authority of the Ahl al-Bayt is not only not incompatible with the conditions and attributes of Imamate, but also has the ability to redefine and prove these positions as a coherent framework.
