Naturalism in Contemporary Moral Philosophy With a Focus on Instances of Applying Empirical Sciences in Moral Philosophy

Abstract

Since moral naturalism is not well-known in Iran, in this paper I will first provide an explication of what this view is, and I will then examine its advantages and disadvantages. In order to show what moral naturalism is, I focus on some prominent versions of moral naturalism, that is, ontological and methodological naturalisms, showing that the former is more controversial, but the latter, having a close tie to sciences, is much more worthy of consideration. I have shown why moral philosophers should not overlook moral naturalism, and in particular, its methodological version.
